Antoinette Brown, RN was the first Daisy Award recipient for Saint Luke’s East – Lee’s Summit.  Antointette was honored by SLELS Administration and co-workers after receiving multiple nominations by both patients and peers.

Antionette joined the Saint Luke’s Health System in 1996 and started her nursing career at Saint Luke’s Hospital in 2000.  She became a member of the Saint Luke’s East – Lee’s Summit Medical Surgical Unit in 2008.  Since joining the team, Antionette has been a strong role model for providing compassionate care in line with our core values.  She is an integral part of the night shift team and is well respected by peers and physicians, as well as staff throughout the hospital.

A former patient shared her experience with Antoinette as her nurse:

Antoinette was my “Angel.”  I was going through the worst experience of my life and my disease process had spiraled out of control.  I was in the hospital for a total of 31 days and was taking 28 pills, including a high dose of steroids.  I thought I was going to die.

I couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep and quite honestly wanted to give up, but God sent an angel named Antoinette. She gave me hope - thus giving me back my life.  God placed Antoinette at the right place at the right time.  She would encourage me each and every night.  I know I drove her crazy, but God knew what I needed.

I got through this terrible experience with Antionette’s help; she cared for me as a person.  She was my true angel and no one deserves to win this award more than she.
