Bevin Stephens

Nomination #1

Bevin is always energetic and positive at work.  She takes the time to make sure that patients and families have all their questions answered.  She gives 200% on each and every shift she works.  She encourages and supports changed based on the best EBP.  She is the Treasurer for AACN and a volunteer for Hospice.  I was most impressed with Bevin when I walked into the unit and there she was sitting at the bed of a confused patient, reading to him.  When asked why, she said it keeps him calm and focused.  Those are the “little” things that count that make a wonderful nurse.

Nomination #2 Bevin is an incredibly passionate and inspiring nurse.  On one occasion in particular, Bevin was assigned to a post suicide attempt and Bevin spent a lot of time in the patient’s room talking to him and evaluating his resources and strengths.  After discovering that the patient loved playing the piano and hadn’t had the opportunity to do so for some time, she took it upon herself to bring in her personal keyboard the following day for the patient to play.  The patient’s mood shifted and he spent the rest of his stay in the ICU playing the keyboard for the staff.  Undoubtedly, this was an important moment in the patient’s stay at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and in the patient’s healing process.
