Bherma Toussaint

I would like to nominate Bherma Toussaint for The DAISY Award.

Bherma took care of a 23-year old patient whom my husband and I took into our home as he had no social support and we became his medical power of attorney. He had ESRD and was going to be placed on the renal transplant list.

He was admitted to Memorial with a mild stroke. He was having hypotension which was unresponsive to treatment and was transferred to PCU. When he was told by Bherma that he would be transferred he was upset. As he was being rolled out the door to be transferred, Bherma reached over and gave him a hug and told him not to be afraid. She was such an angel.

After being in PCU for only a few hours he was transferred to CCU where he coded within a couple of hours and passed away very unexpectedly with pericarditis and he also needed emergency aortic valve replacement. After Bherma learned of his death, of course everyone was shocked as he had been doing so well.

This young man came into our lives for a short period of time and we were blessed to have had him. We are better for knowing him and Bherma was an excellent nurse who showed compassion and excellence. We will never forget him and the staff at Memorial Hospital who took excellent care of him.

Bherma's excellent nursing care and compassion helped to relieve his fear and will never be forgotten. She is the perfect choice for The DAISY Award and well deserved.
