Consuelo Acevedo

Consuelo Acevedo, RN C, MA, HN completed the Graduate Nurse program from United Doctors Medical Center College of Nursing in 1979 and received her BSN degree from Arellano University, Manila, Philippines in 1980. In 1985, she was in one of the groups of nurses recruited to work at Goldwater Memorial Hospital, Roosevelt, Island. She started as a Staff Nurse in C22, a high acuity ventilator unit. As a Staff Nurse she always demonstrates diligence, excellent performance, and advocated for quality patient care. Ms. Acevedo has a very diverse and excellent clinical experience being assigned to numerous different units including ventilator, rehab, medicine, and nursing facility. In 1991, she completed her MA in Community Health Nursing and graduated with honors at Long Island University. Her leadership potential was easily recognized, and by September 1992, she was promoted to a Head Nurse position for C32, a dedicated HIV/AIDS unit. Connie received her Certification in Medical Surgical Nursing from the American Nurses Association Credentialing Center. She is a member of NYSNA and ARN (Association for Rehabilitation Nurses). Connie is known to her superiors, peers, staff and patients as a highly dedicated person who is able to manage her unit with great organizational skills, compassion, and ensures that her patients receive quality care. She makes certain that her staff “learn the right away, do the right way” from the very first day they get oriented on the unit. She takes time to teach her staff and ensures that they achieve the level of competency needed to provide patient care and all other nursing and clinical activities. Additionally, Connie consistently works to maintain standards of care through effective education, good communication and follow-up. She is highly active in numerous hospital committees such as the Clinical Records, Nursing Policy and Procedure, Falls, and Pain Management Committees. She is an active preceptor and mentor for new nurses. She serves as resource lecturer to the Board of Education LPN program regarding care of patients with HIV/AIDS. She piloted and initiated the Computerized Physician Order sheet and use of Electronic M.A.R. currently in full operation on her unit and which is one of her many projects. In May 2008 National Nurses’ Week celebration, she was awarded the Professional Nurse Outstanding Award. Outside of nursing, Connie believes in balancing her life, ensuring that her two handsome twin boys receive all the love in the world.
