Cora Eye

“In 2005 my grandmother was admitted to the Oncology floor with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. While on the floor Nurse Cora Eye was my grandmother’s nurse frequently. Every day Cora was very compassionate and caring towards my grandmother who was very sick. Not only was she compassionate with my grandmother, but with my family as well. She always entered and left the room with a smile, and it was obvious that she truly enjoyed her job, and in return my grandmother and family truly enjoyed her. My grandmother is now a cancer survivor and my family still talks about Cora and the wonderful care she provided while in the hospital. Five years later, and now a Social Worker for part of the Oncology Unit, I witness daily the same compassionate and caring attitude that Cora shared with my grandmother, with other patients on the unit. There have been many times when I have entered a patient’s room and the patient and/or family has commented on how wonderful of a nurse Cora is. It brings a smile to my face knowing that I can relate to them personally. It truly touches my heart to see someone who was so wonderful to my grandmother also be so wonderful to many others here at WMC. I have yet to see Cora without a smile and positive attitude. Because so many patient’s come and go from the hospital I’m sure that Cora does not remember caring for my grandmother, but my family and I will always remember her. And I am positive that my family is not the only one who is going to remember the care that Cora brings to her patients. For this reason, I feel that Cora Eye is the perfect nominee for The DAISY Award.”
