The DAISY Award stands for the truth and the heart of nursing. I was a patient and had two unexpected brain surgeries, two surgeries that changed my life mentally, physically and emotionally. Through my ups and downs, cries, loneliness, and with a willingness to give up, there was a nurse by the name of Cora Mendoza. Cora was not only my nurse, she had a special way of making me feel like I was her only patient. Cora helped me through countless nights of headaches, anxiety, soreness and emotional distress. I was afraid and Cora always gave me eye contact, touch, and a voice that made me feel safe. Cora has everything a Nurse should have in their heart, that's what makes her excellent as a Nurse with her selfless work ethic. Cora, you are one of the reasons why today I'm at home with my son, Thank You.
