Deborah Gatson

Deborah Gatson, RN, MSN, CNS, was born and raised in Brooklyn. Before she was orphaned at an early age, she promised her mother that she would pursue a career in nursing. She attended St. Angela Hall Academy, a parochial school, where she graduated in 1976. Ms. Gatson received full scholarship to attend Long Island University for her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. During the course of her studies, she worked night shift in oncology and geriatric units as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Long Island College Hospital and also at the Methodist Hospital. After her graduation in 1981, she went for her Master of Science in Nursing and graduated shortly thereafter. Currently, Ms. Gatson serves as Head Nurse at the East New York Diagnostic and Treatment Center. Prior to being a Head Nurse, Ms Gatson has worked in various capacities as staff nurse, supervisor and clinician in most HHC facilities and is an active member and delegate of the New York State Nurses’ Association (NYSNA). Ms Gatson has also worked at St Mary’s Hospital, Brooklyn early in her nursing career. Ms. Gatson excels as a leader who demonstrates exceptional clinical and people skills. She advocates for patients in the truest sense of the word. She is well-respected by patients, colleagues and members of the interdisciplinary team.
