Deidra Clark

Mrs. Clark is an exceptional health technician who shows her compassion for the patients and family every day. Mrs. Clark is being nominated for her dedication and compassion for our Veterans. There was one of our female patients in the MICU became confused and very agitated. She was intubated needed a trach and PICC line. She pulled her peripheral IV and refused to allow any nurse or physician in the room. She refused her trach and PICC line that were essential for her care.

Mrs. Clark went into her room asked her and talked to her. The patient wrote her concerns and Mrs. Clark assured her not to be afraid and she would stay with her. She turned on the gospel music the patient requested to help her relax. They prayed together. After an hour, the patient agreed to have the procedures only if Mrs. Clark could be present. Mrs. Clark accompanied the patient in OR as far as she could go into the OR suite and the patient was able to have the tracheostomy.

This is only one example of how Mrs. Clark exhibits caring behaviors with the patients and family members in MICU.
