Jascinth Maxwell-Penceal

Ms. Jascinth Maxwell-Penceal, RN, MSA set her goal to become a nurse while still in her teens. However, it was not until coming to the United States from Jamaica, West Indies some years later that she was able to enroll in an academic program to pursue her dream. Upon graduation from an Associate Degree program for Nursing in 1984, she joined Kings County Hospital Center as a staff nurse on a Medical-Surgical unit and began her career journey, which has proven to strengthen her commitment to patient care and clinical excellence over the years. Ms. Maxwell-Penceal emerged as a leader and patient advocate as she went on to assume the role of Assistant Head Nurse, followed by her current position as Head Nurse on D4 North. Her passion for Medical/Surgical Nursing has also driven her to advance herself educationally with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and her most recent achievement of a Master of Science degree in Health Care Administration, completed in December 2009. Ms. Maxwell-Penceal’s vision is to share and extend her years of experience and elevated level of education through the mentoring of new nurses, as they transition into their professional nursing roles. The Interdisciplinary Team on D4-North recognizes Ms. Maxwell-Penceal as “A Leader, Role Model and a Tribute to Nursing,” demonstrated by the accomplishment of a high level of professionalism, quality patient care, as well as customer and staff satisfaction. She embraces her staff through her guidance, serving as a mentor and coach. She is resourceful and takes pride in her work and that of her staff. Ms. Maxwell-Penceal is very goal-oriented and always strives for excellence. Her professional image depicts the true image of Nursing and KCHC. Complementing her contributions at KCHC, Ms. Maxwell-Penceal is also involved in her church and community, promoting the holistic understanding of health care in keeping with the concept of “Caring Today for a Healthier Tomorrow.” In addition to her commitment to work, family and friends, she enjoys listening to music, singing, and traveling. Her contributions and successes in nursing both at KCHC and her community, along with personal qualities and achievements, make her deserving of the 2010 DAISY Award.
