Joan Dorman, RN

Same Day Surgery, Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital

Parkersburg, West Virginia

Joan Dorman received two nominations for her DAISY award:

She is like a mother to everyone from patient to fellow staff members. You have to practically push her out the door at the end of the day because the patient needs one more thing – she does not like handing her patient off. She makes sure the patient’s every need is taken care of. She also watches out for their family. She also goes to the extreme and makes sure fellow staff’s birthdays, retirement, job success are acknowledged by a cake or party. You can depend on her when ever help is needed.

She is a very caring nurse who makes sure her patient is well taken care of. If needed to stay over, she willingly does so not to leave her co-workers or patients in a bind. Patients comment on her caring attitude and “compassion”. She is a great team member – she assures cards and flowers are sent from staff when appropriate. She frequently bakes cakes, and brings food in for the staff, which helps the atmosphere of the department. This is a positive atmosphere which reflects to the patient.
