Radiology, VCU Medical Center

Richmond, Virginia

Jordan Boyd, RN received a call from a patient’s father asking questions about the MRI that his 12 year old daughter (newly diagnosed with cancer) was scheduled for at Stony Point.  As Jordan was explaining the procedure to him, she noticed the patient was also scheduled for a CT scan and a bone scan the next day, downtown, at the main hospital.  The patient was scheduled for a follow up visit with the referring MD that day as well.  Jordan wanted to make this process easier for the 12 year old patient and her family, so she coordinated with CT at Stony Point and with Nuclear Medicine, downtown, so the patient could have her MRI immediately followed by her CT at Stony Point, then travel downtown for her bone scan on the same day.  This allowed the patient to keep her IV in so she only had to be stuck one time.  In doing this, the patient will have had all three tests prior to her follow up visit with her physician on Friday.  The father was very appreciative of Jordan’s efforts to make this as easy as possible for them.

This was exceptionally compassionate care for the patient and her family!
