Joyce Butterman has been nominated more than once. Her latest nomination was submitted by Julie Lawson, Shift Coordinator:

When Julie reviewed Joyce’s work history at Marion General Hospital, she found that Joyce began as a Daisy girl in the 1960s. She worked her way through a variety of roles, finally achieving an RN position. Julie has known and worked with Joyce for many years, beginning when she was a shift coordinator in the late 1980s. According to Julie, since Joyce transferred to Hospice, she and her fellow colleagues have created a safe and comfortable transition for patients who are at the end of their life. Joyce always has time to talk, regardless of what she may have on her agenda that day. She is repeatedly honored by patients who have experienced her compassionate care and endless support even after the death of a loved one. She models each and every one of the Daisy award characteristics without exception.

Joyce was also nominated in November 2009 by Joe Howard. He noted that when his mother was at the end stage of pulmonary fibrosis, Joyce and her team were extraordinarily kind and compassionate during the transition to her passing. For several months following, a hospice volunteer visited his dad periodically, and she continually asks Joe about his family.

As Joyce began as a Daisy, it is only fitting that as she prepared for retirement, that she be awarded the DAISY Award.
