Julie Maier

This is Julie's second DAISY Award, the last one was in 2010. The daughter of her patient wrote this nomination letter: My mom was in the hospital with terminal lung cancer. She had some hard decisions to make involving taking out the chest tube and going on hospice care, or going through two procedures more before hospice care. When Julie came in that night she could see that my mom was clearly confused and not sure what to do. She listened to my mom, talked to her, and told her that NOT being sure what to do was indeed a decision in itself and that my mom needed more time to decide. By the next morning, with those soothing words in her mind, my mom decided what to do and is at peace with her decision—much due to Julie’s calm, compassionate spirit. She exemplifies this award.
