Katie Skell
Katie and I shared a medically complex patient who had multiple lengthy admissions, most of which were focused on diagnosing and problem solving. Katie made sure that none of us forgot the person behind the problem. The patient was cognitive disabled with a history of abuse from caregivers. Katie took extra time and patience to put the patient at ease. Her extraordinary caring and compassion was above and beyond the call of duty. Her individual attention was likely the most significant reason that the patient recovered.
