Kim changed more than one patient's life by her compassionate care... Knowing my husband would be having heart surgery in the future, wanting the best team available, but not ready to talk openly about this emotional event, I approached Kim. I asked some vague questions about the cardiac surgeons that practice here at ELMC. I receive a very honest response. Kim not only met with us, giving us a thorough explanation, answering questions, introducing us to staff, but gave us a tour of CCU and allowed us to view a vented post-op cardiac patient. With the information that was provided, there were no surprises. Even with a few bumps in the road, everything that occurred post op had not come unexplained. When the surgery date was set, Kim informed me that she would make herself available to recover my husband post-op. The one bump in the road was that in the week leading up to that date, it was changed at least 5 times. Needless to say, Kim went with the flow and come in on her day off to recover my husband post op. How reassuring to see that familiar face and know that he was in the best nursing hands available. Kim continued to be my husband’s primary caregiver during his stay in CCU. I told Kim how valuable her pre op meeting had been in preparing us for this monumental event in our lives. She informed me that is is now being considered as an option in the future for other cardiac surgery patients. |
