Leilani Grabast, RN

Intensive Care Unit, Saint Agnes Medical Center

Fresno, California

Lani Grabast was working in Intensive Care Unit when nominated. She was part of the poignant story of helping devise a plan that would enable a 10-year-old boy to say his last goodbyes to his dying mother. Lani and social worker Sandy led the conversation in terms specific to him. They described the room and the nature of his mother’s condition, preparing him for his meeting and assuring him how important it would be for him to talk to her like he always did. “He saw his mom, not the tubes and monitors and ventilator, because of the great job Lani and Sandy had done with him,” the nominator said. The nominator overheard the father later express his gratitude to Lani, thanking her for taking this difficult experience and making it positive for his son. “He knew because of who she and Sandy were that his son would be able to have good memories of this day.”

Congratulations, Lani!
