Megan Ryan, BSN, RN

5NW Neurosciences, Froedtert Hospital

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

My friend spent a lot of time, including her last weeks on 5NW in Meg’s hands.  Meg is a newer nurse, and I was so surprised to hear this when I first met her.  She is amazing!  From her compassion, to respect, to professionalism, she has it all.

There are several great stories but just a few that really stand out:

  1. Meg always cares about everyone and realized how hard losing our friend at age 26 was. She always asked how we were doing, gave us hugs and checked if we needed anything.

  1. One night we were all sitting around my friend’s bed – 4 weeks into her final stay.  We were all upset and Meg walked in.  She gave our usual hugs and asked if we needed anything.  My friend’s mom jokingly said “a drink”.  Meg laughed, then pretended to be a waitress and took our orders.  That wasn’t the end.  About 10 minutes later Meg came back with a tray of waters that were all neatly labeled with our drink of choice that we ordered.  We all laughed and it brightened the mood.

  1. Meg became our/my friend.  She continues to be a support for me and my friend’s mom long after her job ended back in October 2010 when my friend passed away.

Long and short of it, Meg is a GREAT nurse!   She deserves this DAISY Award a million times over.  She is a strong patient advocate, a great support, knowledgeable and dedicated to her job.  There is no way that I can thank her enough for the great care she provided my friend during her final months and to us (family/friends).  She needs to be recognized for her work as a nurse!   Thank you!
