Michelle Scherff

Michelle works on 2N at Cape Canaveral Hospital as a staff nurse and relief charge nurse.  She consistently delivers quality care to her patients and demonstrates the I-CARE values daily.   Recently we had a patient take a turn for the worse on 2N.  The Rapid Response team was called and assistance was provided by the ICU nurses.   This patient was started on several drips including an epinephrine drip.  This would normally call for an immediate transfer to ICU.  However, the ICU was full and did not have an available bed.  While ICU was attempting to obtain orders and transfer a less critical patient out of ICU, Michelle stayed with this patient and provided 1:1 care on 2N—even past the end of her scheduled shift.  Her excellent communication skills and superior clinical ability helped keep this patient and the family calm during this difficult situation. 

Michelle is also very flexible and willing to do whatever it takes to see that our patients receive the best care.  On another occasion, Michelle stepped in and took over a team for a nurse who had to leave suddenly due to illness.  Michelle never missed a beat and the patients received excellent care.  Michelle has an exceptional positive attitude everyday.
