Patricia Kulas

It was the Saturday before Mother’s Day and the final group of the evening or “wrap up group” on the behavioral health unit was meeting. Most of the patients had lost their mothers and some losses were very recent. Patti encouraged the last group of the day to go around the room and express the fondest memories that they had of their mothers. The next day, Sunday, the patients talked about this meeting and how much it meant to them. Patti had remembered so many details about the patients’ history and understood that Mother’s day would be very difficult day for many. Because of her compassion and empathy, Sunday turned out to be a very good day for everyone on the Behavioral Health unit.
