Rita Carter-Hefley

Rita joined Redwood Memorial Hospital in 1981. She worked on the Med/Surg unit for seven years before transferring to O.R. and Short Stay. From 1989-2001 Rita worked for what is now St. Joseph Home Care and in 2001 she came back to Redwood to work in the ICU on night shift. In 2008 she joined the Short Stay department and more recently has been working in both ICU and Short Stay. A patient of Rita’s said in his DAISY nomination, “Rita took care of me in Intensive Care and as an out-patient. She is very professional and keeps her patients at ease. She is a great person, very friendly, and takes care of her patient’s every need.” A member of the Redwood team shared this story in a DAISY nomination, “Rita was very compassionate towards an elderly patient who was anxious concerning his wife. Rita spoke calmly to him. When he was ready to be discharged, his wife went out to get the car and fell. She was taken to the E.R. Rita stayed calm, made sure the patient’s wife was cared for, reassured her husband, called the family, and was still there to care for another patient in a compassionate caring fashion.” |
