Sara Sue Vandal

The following summarizes who Sara Sue is when working at the bedside with her patients.  She truly knows what is important.  The note was shared at our staff meeting and the unit council for ICU-CCU has requested it be sent as a nomination for Sara Sue for the DAISY Award... 

Sara Sue took care of my dad on Monday, August 16th, and I just wanted to let you know how much my mom and I appreciated the care you gave him – he means the world to us and although you didn’t get to know him that well, he is one of the kindest, most generous, thoughtful souls on the face of this earth.  I keep telling him I’d like him around another 30 years, but at 76 he doesn’t think that it is such a good idea!

Sara Sue , you are truly a gem, and we feel so incredibly blessed to have had you take such good care of my dad!  While you have excellent technical skills, you also have a very gentle nature, and your smile/laugh is infectious!  We really appreciated the fact that you took the time to explain the why, the what and the where concerning his care, and you were always very patient with our concerns and questions.  Because of you, my dad’s stay in ICU was a very pleasant and comfortable one!  I don’t think amazing people like you get the recognition they deserve, but I want you to know that it doesn’t go unnoticed, or unappreciated by those you care for and their families.
