Shanea Hines
On multiple encounters, I have observed Shanea who was always consistent with her behavior towards this little boy, now 11 months old. Behavior/attitude of love, caring, compassionate and great advocate for the mother who is Spanish-Speaking. On one particular day I observed, Shanea worked hard to get this child home with mom. The nurse called Palliative Care and allowed us to walk side by side with the mother, Spanish interpreter and respiratory therapist. Shanea provided discharge instructions, education that now baby is going home with continuous oxygen, allowed the mother to ask questions, and provided explanation to mother’s satisfaction. I observed qualities of caring, love and compassion and allowed mom to care for baby boy at home. I also observed knowing that language is a barrier this never stopped her from getting to know the mother, the challenges in caring for a fragile, special needs child.
