Sue Matthews, RN

Perioperative, Carroll Hospital Center

Westminster, Maryland

Sue Matthews, R.N., who was named April’s DAISY Award winner for her outstanding work on the hospital’s electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) program.

The program has become a valuable tool for patients with depression who do not respond well to conventional treatments. For each of her patients, Sue is their continual nurse who stays with them throughout their entire sessions. Her compassion and kindness allows them to feel at ease. She listens to their concerns and rejoices with them as their condition improves from the treatments. She is so adored by all her patients that many will cancel their appointments if she is not working.

“Sue genuinely cares for all of her patients. She has played an integral role in the success of our ECT program and is indeed worthy of the DAISY Award,” Stephanie Reid, R.N., B.S.N., M.B.A., chief nursing officer and assistant vice president of nursing at Carroll Hospital Center, said.
