Theresa Deverna
Theresa admitted a patient who had an acute MI and was down at home. Unfortunately he became obtunded and we were unable to save him. He was only 51 years old with a very close knit and supportive family. Theresa took care of him and his family for 3 days. On the fourth day the family decided to withdraw care as the situation became hopeless. Theresa was off that day but came in anyway to be with the family as care was being withdrawn and stayed with the family as they said their final goodbye. Not only was Theresa selfless in her care of this very distraught family, she gave her time off and cancelled her own appointments to stay at the bedside the entire day. Even now, months later, the family stays in touch with Theresa through cards and emails.
