Theresa Nuarin

Having a premature baby is an extremely scary thing. Not only is your baby at risk for so many complications that can come from prematurity, but as a mother are robbed of the beautiful and wonderful experience of enjoying a full-term pregnancy. This was my first pregnancy and I had my baby at 26 weeks gestational age. I was not only terrified of losing my long awaited baby (10 years to be exact) but I was also mourning the loss of all the preparations, illusions, and picture perfect moments all mothers dream about. When an RN in the NICU is assigned to a baby she doesn't have one patient. She has three, the sick baby, the mourning mother and the devastated father. I came across an extraordinary nurse named Theresa Nuarin who not only took care of my baby, but gave me all the information I needed to know about his status and how to care for my preemie. She also became the primary nurse for my son. Theresa made one of my dreams come true. I pictured myself learning to crochet. Sitting on my couch with my big stomach crocheting blankets for my baby. When my baby was born premature I mourned over the loss I had experienced. Although the care provided in the NICU is very intense and busy Theresa took the time to sit and teach me how to crochet. She brought yarn and helped me. This act on Theresa's part healed some of the loss I experienced. I could now crochet blankets for my baby at the bedside. She went over and beyond her duties and made a difference.”
