Anna Carr

Some nurses are so special that their compassion and emotional connection to others can be felt.  Anna Carr is one of those extraordinary nurses.  She is knowledgeable, professional and skillful as any ICU nurse is expected to be.  What sets Anna apart is her attention to detail, making an emotional connection with her patients and her unconditional respect for the dignity of life.  She sets a wonderful example as a sensitive caregiver and a dedicated mentor as expressed in the following DAISY Award nomination:

Anna is genuinely compassionate and goes above and beyond for both her patients and their families.  While caring for a young patient who would not recover from an unexpected event; Anna pursued trying to find one of MVH’s stuffed dogs for the six year old sister of this patient.  When she was unable to find one, she took it upon herself to go to the hospital gift shop and purchase a stuffed teddy bear for the little sister for comfort and also for a way to remember her big sister.  This really touched me and I think it is a perfect example of nursing care directly from the heart and also looking past the obvious nursing “tasks” to recognize and anticipate taking care of our patients and their loved ones.  ICU is blessed to have an example like Anna and this patient’s family was lucky to have her caring for their loved one.
