Bryanna Gibbs, BSN, RN, PCCN

Progressive Care Unit

Mission Hospital

Asheville, North Carolina

This past September, I was a patient at Mission Hospital, and was cared for by the very able staff on the 9 Stepdown Unit for 10 days.

I was impressed by Mission employees generally. The people from the lab, the staff from the Food and Nutrition Department, the Housekeepers, EKG Representatives, Respiratory Therapists,---all were pleasant, thoughtful, and handled their particular activities with knowledge, expertise, and sensitivity.

It is of primary concern that I contact you in behalf of all the nursing personnel, but in particular and specifically about nurse, Bryanna Gibbs. She is intelligent, knowledgeable, sensitive to the needs of the patient, and is one of the most outstanding advocates I have ever witnessed. She advocated not only for me, the patient, but had the leadership qualities to advocate for her colleagues. Many times I observed the encouragement she provided a team mate to take that extra step, to do that additional thing, to be better than average.

Bryanna seems to love what she does. Her intellect, motivation, and caring allow her to accomplish her goals in unique, outstanding, and resourceful ways. Her quiet manner and unobtrusive self allows her to bring about results that can benefit the patient and their loved ones, but also, can only bring positive outcomes and benefits to your hospital.

Prior to my retirement I was employed as a Medical/Psychiatric Social Worker, and as such served in a setting which allowed me to observe the functioning of personnel in auxiliary services. I believe, therefore, when I observe an outstanding nurse such as Bryanna, it is of great importance to share those findings with individuals who recognize the value of acknowledging such special and able employees.

It is my hope you will award Bryanna with something more than a pat on the back or an "Atta Girl." Bryanna, and others like her are the most valuable asset your institution can have. Hopefully, you will express my appreciation to Bryanna as well as the gratitude of Mission Hospital.
