This week, Carol Baltz was announced as the DAISY Award Winner for 4th Quarter 2011. In addition to the staff and administration at SLEH, Mark and Bonnie Barnes, co-founders of the DAISY Foundation, Gus Kincaid from Kimberly Clark, and Mark and Sara Schram with Get Well Network were on site as we presented Carol with her DAISY Award.

Carol was nominated by the wife of one of her patients. In the nomination, the wife wrote about Carol’s kind and compassionate care and how amazed she was that Carol had completely change her husband’s attitude. During the patient’s stay, the wife wrote about how grumpy her husband was and how he was complaining about everything. She said that Carol took the time to share stories with him, give him a good shower and get him a clean set of sheets and was able to totally change him into a different person. Carol has been described by peers and patients as having a beautiful smile, an encouraging attitude and that she brings hope to everyone she meets.

Thank you, Carol for sharing your nursing knowledge and skill and always reminding us that the patient comes first. We also want to thank you for the time you spent on Medical Telemetry helping to grow and develop that unit. We are proud and honored to have you as a member of the Saint Luke’s East team!
