Debra Sipes-Fears

Deb is such an incredible model for nursing. She always exhibits compassionate and exemplary nursing care that includes caring for her patient's family, as well as her patient. I would like to recognize her for a specific incident that occurred last fall (2010).

She was caring for a patient in 5B and the patient's daughter came to visit. When the daughter arrived at the room she was short of breath. Deb, rather than brushing it off and not investigating, recognized there was something wrong. She asked the daughter some questions and quickly realized the daughter needed help. She voiced her concerns to the daughter and insisted on wheeling her down to the ED herself. The daughter was admitted. When they did a cardiac work up on her, the daughter was actively having an MI. We were able to get her into cath lab. I don't remember her length of stay, but there were no complications.

Because Deb chose to go above and beyond caring for just her patient, she literally saved her patient’s daughter's life. I wanted her to be recognized for this!
