Patient/Family: “What a blessing you are. You are a busy bee, but of course mom is working you hard. You not only are caring for mom, but us that stay with her. You are always so cheery, on every shift you have worked with us. Thank you for the Hugs and Prayers.” Co-workers: Took care of a long stay ICU patient-skillfully-with exemplary compassion for family. Patient finally transitioned to PCU and after a very long shift, Emily clocked out and left….only to find the family in the waiting room, crying. She stopped-stayed with this family for over an hour-supporting them in their grief-until they no longer needed her.
