Emily Long

Emily is one of the most compassionate nurses I know. Emily goes over and beyond what is asked of her on a daily basis. She has stayed after her shift is over multiple times helping nurses and patients. We had an 18 year old patient on our unit. This patient was very ill. The patient was very upset and her home life was very rocky. She was one of 6 children and one sibling had discipline issues which kept her mother busy and unable to visit the patient in the hospital except for a few times. Emily could sense from the patient how scared and upset the patient was. The patient would cry and Emily would stay at the bedside and comfort her. Dr. T was consulted to see the patient. Emily stayed after her shift to talk with Dr. T about the patient. She truly cares about her patients. Emily had another patient who was confused and needed to wear her bipap mask but kept pulling it off. The patient had pulled out several IVs as well. Emily had this patient several nights in a row. This particular night the patient was very agitated and confused. Restraining the patient would have made the patient more agitated. Emily sat at the bedside with the patient reassuring and comforting her. Emily has a great sense of compassion and it shows in the daily bedside care of her patients and their families. When you see Emily’s name on the schedule to work with you, you can count on her positive attitude and great work ethic to help you get through the day no matter how rough of a day it is. She truly models the standards of behavior every day.
