Jennifer was nominated a Jefferson employee and spouse of a recent patient.  In her letter she wrote:  “My husband was a short-procedure surgical patient for removal of sarcoma of the lip in December 2010.  The care he received was excellent.

Eight months later I am still thinking about how Jennifer really impressed me with her discharge care.  I was a nervous wreck about taking my husband home due to his tendency to bleed after surgical procedures.  I was terrified, actually.  Jennifer was a confident special angel, and just piled on the surgical "toppers" pads so that I felt I could handle a bleed on the way home.  When my husband complained of pain post op, Jennifer literally ran, RAN to get him his medicine, which I don't expect from anybody.  When one pain pill didn't do the trick, she RAN again to get the pain medicine.  I felt a little embarrassed, (no one should run for a pain pill!) but also in awe, a little bit, of the care she gave.  Jennifer made me feel like my husband was her only patient.  She even laughed at his jokes.

I was able to drive him home feeling a little lightened up and he didn't bleed a single drop.  Even nurses who have less than a day's interaction with a patient can make a real difference.  Thank you Jennifer!”
