Julie Rongone, RN

Adult Intensive Care

Presbyterian Hospital

Albuquerque, NM

Julie had a patient who worsened and wasn't expected to survive. This patient was DNR/DNI and alone in the room without family present. Julie contacted the family and notified them of the patient's worsened condition, and requested them to come to the hospital. The family did not arrive before the patient died.

Julie found that the patient was Catholic, and ensured the chaplain be present in the room. The last hour of this man's life consisted of the chaplain on one side of the patient, Julie on the other, both holding his hands. Julie showed true compassion to this patient and gave his family the peace that he didn't die alone and he went in prayer.
