Lindsey Bell, RN

Family Birth Center

Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center

Vancouver, Washington

This letter was written about Lindsey by a fellow co-worker.

Our department had a patient who was not very pleasant to care for. Besides not being happy, she was dirty and had a uresotomy (due to spina bifida) which she refused to use a bag over the site. Every time she moved urine would squirt everywhere. Since she had a urinary tract infection this also gave off an extreme odor. Lindsey was so kind to her, she helped her bathe many times a day and over the course of a weekend she convinced the patient to try a urostomy bag. Lindsey was so compassionate with the patient that the patient starting using statements like, “My husband would rather I wear a bag.” And the patient’s husband was also encouraging to her in wanting her to wear a bag.

Not only all of this encouragement, but Lindsey also went out and purchased several bras (the patient didn’t have any), gave her new makeup and taught her how to apply it. The patient was beaming by the end of the weekend.

Because of all of these kindnesses and compassion I believe Lindsey deserves the DAISY Award. She truly went above and beyond the usual care given by nursing.
