Lisa Midkiff

I would like to nominate a nurse that works in our special care nursery unit, Lisa Midkiff, for the DAISY award because of her exceptional care to a family.

A patient and her husband were having their first baby and were being induced in our labor and delivery unit.  Due to bleeding complications, the mother was rushed into the operating room for an emergency c-section.  The infant was born with no heartbeat and Lisa assisted in running a full resuscitation on the infant.  She did an exceptional job trying to resuscitate the infant and after a long period of time there was a heart beat noted and the infant was then transferred to Children’s Hospital, a decision was made to bring the infant back to The Christ Hospital for palliative care and to be with the family.

Before coming to work, Lisa had called to check on the family and to see what the prognosis was with the baby.  After finding out that the baby had come back to have palliative care, Lisa asked to be assigned to the family and infant.

Lisa sat with the infant and family for her whole entire shift, doing comfort measures and helping the family.  After 12 hours of being with this mother and father the infant finally passed.  Lisa took pictures and cared for the infant.  Even during such a difficult time the patents were comforted by her care.

Lisa is a strong, caring, and compassionate nurse and I am proud to be her coworker.  She is the Best of the Best!
