Lisa Neil, RN

ICU

Mercy Medical Center St. Mary's

Knoxville, Tennessee

Lisa Neil, RN has been an ICU nurse at Mercy Medical Center, St. Mary’s for five years – which is her entire nursing career.  Lisa attended and graduated from Walter State University.

Lisa’s nomination was submitted by a peer and reads as follows:

“Lisa provided care for a 16 year old boy from Haiti awaiting a heart valve for more than 5 days.  She gave a part of herself to this boy while caring for him.  She made sure he had the food he desired.  She went the extra mile in every area of care.  She shopped for him at Walmart, for him to have special souvenirs from the US, such as a Rubik’s Cube.  She reached out and showed him compassion and God’s love and grace.  He died during surgery and she has truly grieved his loss, as she felt she had lost a son.”

Lisa rearranged her schedule so that she would be the nurse caring for this boy when he came out of surgery.  She truly went the extra mile for this boy who was in a strange land with strange people.
