Maria Ayazagoitia

Maria Ayarzagoitia demonstrates all the qualities and attributes described above. She is a respected member of our ED team.

During leader rounding, associates are asked who we should recognize and the most common response is, "of course, Maria". It is as if it is common knowledge that Maria should be recognized for her leadership skills and positive attitude. She is highly respected because that is exactly how she treats her patients, family members and staff.

Maria also serves as a great resource for her knowledge and skills. She is commonly summoned as an interpreter for our deaf community. She has also developed and initiated processes that increase patient safety, satisfaction and throughput. As a charge nurse, she will take assertive actions and flex down as needed with minimal or no supervision. She is compassionate when communicating with patients that have had concerns about their trPAtmAnt.

Maria is involved in the medication safety team and the staffing effectiveness committee. She is a nurse leader and meets regularly with the manager. She also oversees the unit when the manager is out or on vacation. Because of her consistency in character, she has been assigned as a responsible member of the Kronos, timekeeping system. She has recently begun her Master's degree studies as well.

It is a true blessing to have her on our team and a privilege to nominate her for the DAISY Award.
