Melissa Lind, RN, BSN

Neuro Telemetry Unit

Glendale Adventist Medical Center

Glendale, California

I had a broken nose and was depressed and very sad. Melissa came in the room and her smile and comments light up the room to the extent the patient has no choice but to smile. Without knowing it, her encouragement helped give me a resounding hope and determination to fight my sickness and fight to want to stay alive. It’s unbelievable – her effect on me! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE give Melissa the DAISY Award!

It is my pleasure to honor Melissa with this DAISY Award. I have been working with her for the past two years in NTU. She is professional in her attitude and demeanor.  She is flexible, caring, kind, helpful, supportive self-directed, and communicates well with staff and patients. She integrates concepts and performs competently in stressful and challenging situations.

I was always pleased to see her listen attentively to the needs and concerns of her patients and ask the right questions of her instructors in order to provide knowledgeable, compassionate care. She has a hardworking attitude, is always motivated and willing to go the extra mile. Melissa is a pleasure to have in NTU, and all her peers enjoy working with her as well.

This note of gratitude was written by Melissa's mother:

... I am a retired RN who can appreciate loving, nurturing and compassionate bedside care. I was extremely surprised to get a call from the head of HR, at GAMC informing me that my daughter, Melissa Lind, was going to receive an award for being an outstanding nurse. She explained the DAISY Award and asked if I would attend the ceremony. Of course there was no hesitation, as that is the same hospital I used to work at, my husband was born at, and so were our three children.

But for my young 27 year-old girl it was the biggest compliment to her as all the heads of the hospital were there, including her teammates and charge nurses. Melissa is working on the NTU since graduating in 2009 from Walla Walla University in Washington. I was brought to tears as the kind words were expressed about her devotion to her patients and compassion to those around them. As a mother, I feel extremely proud of her for using her inner most caring and loving heart as she takes care of the needs of her patients and their families.

Melissa was so honored to receive such the fuss that was given over her. You must know that this is a moment in her life that she will never forget and will remember each time she goes into a patient’s room. Thank you for giving my daughter the recognition through your DAISY Foundation. I am bursting with pride!
