Naira Mkrtochyan Arquell

My mother came into the ED on Tuesday. She broke her hip, and after eight hours in the ED and my fighting to get her in to a bed, she arrived on the 4th floor. For the last three nights, Naira has been my mother’s nurse. She has been the only nurse in the whole time we have been her who I felt really cares for my mother as a frail 97-year-old human being. She has communicated with me at all times, has advocated on behalf of my mother with the doctors and has made me feel it was okay for me to go home at night after we had mom settled in. Naira has treated me as part of her care team, and on Friday night when I thought it likely that mom would die, Naira went out of her way to support mom and me. The Charge Nurse walked away while Naira really provided support to me, including getting me a cup of coffee! I know she doesn’t have to sandwich time in to do that extra effort, but she did it without my asking. I feel that Naira is a very caring nurse, and really made an effort to be a patient and family advocate. More nursing staff should emulate her and her behavior and skills. Thank you, Naira. I will always remember your kindnesses!
