I have had the privilege of working with Nino who is the “glue” that helps keep our unit together and working well.  Nino demonstrates patience and caring not only to patients and their families, but to co-workers as well.  When taking the charge nurse role, collaboration with other units is the key and Nino does a fantastic job by keeping our schedule running smoothly, no small feat since we work with outpatients and inpatients both in our unit and at the bedside. Decisions are made by keeping the needs of our patients a top priority.  This nurse has excellent nursing skills and when in charge, finds time to help our co-workers during exceptionally busy times

I am a witness to Nino giving compassionate care to many of our patients.  In one incident, a patient came in with shortness of breath and high anxiety.  While providing basic nursing care, Nino took the time to work with this patient to help him relax by counting with him through his breaths, making them more effective.  This patient later verbalized how comforted and reassured he was by Nino.  When a new patient is going through the admission process in our unit, this nominee takes extra time to follow up on all the information from the patient.  Nino uses every opportunity to involve our patients in their care by explaining the procedure and plan of care to the patient and family members (if they are available) paying close attention to their ability and readiness to learn. Often, our patients with chronic disease react to staff in an aggressive manner.  This nurse provides a calming influence and mentors other staff members in dealing with challenging or angry patients.

Nino maintains professional qualities in his work while being warm and supportive at all times.  Instead of complaining about issues, Nino attempts to find creative solutions. In communicating with doctors and other units, Nino remains polite and professional.  In my long nursing career, this nurse is undoubtedly one of the finest nurses I have ever worked with and deserves this recognition
