Caring for a patient goes far beyond meeting his or her individual needs. It often means focusing on what’s best for the patient’s family. According to MW of Comstock, exceptional care was provided to his family by Rebecca Hanson, a registered nurse in the Medical/Surgical Department at Luther Midelfort Northland in Barron, during the evening his mother passed away. As a result, he nominated Rebecca for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

“We gathered the family around, and she told us about what to expect when someone dies.  She provided the family with soothing words and knowledge of this life process. The care provided to our family by a nurse going above and beyond her job responsibilities will never be forgotten.”

“That makes my heart feel good,” said Rebecca after learning how her actions helped the family during a difficult time. “I am just really glad that I was able to provide some comfort to a family that needed it. It’s why I became a nurse in the first place.”

“Nurses are heroes every day,” said Lynn Frank, chief nursing officer at Luther Midelfort. “It’s important that our nurses know their work is highly valued, and The DAISY Foundation provides a way for us to do that.”
