Rebekah "Ellie" Baranco, BSN, RN

Med/Surg

St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center

Syracuse, New York

Rebekah ( Ellie) Baranco started her career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY in November 2010.  She has a BS in Biology and in Nursing.

Ellie transitioned with us at SJHHC from a novice graduate nurse to a leadership-level primary nurse.  Though new in her profession, she is genuinely a giving, compassionate, and caring person.  When she heard about the letter which lead to her DAISY Award she was quite humble in her acceptance.  However, as the committee read her achievements and staff gave congratulations Ellie turned to me and said, “I guess even the youngest nurse can make a difference,” and she was right.  She attributes her ability to extend herself to her patients to the principles of relationship care and healing relationships.

Ellie also uses the principles of primary nursing to include the patient and family into the medical plan of care.  She bridged the boundary between discharge and the continuum of care at home for the patient and family who nominated her.
