Sandra Currie-Owens, RN

Emergency Department

Methodist South Hospital

Memphis, Tennessee

The DAISY Award was set up as an avenue to recognize extraordinary nurses who make a difference in the lives of so many people by the superhuman work they do everyday. Sandra is such a nurse.  Sandra functions in the role of weekend PCC in the Methodist South ED.  The thing that makes Sandra extraordinary is that when she is on the job, it is certain that whatever needs to be done will be done in a timely manner and with great efficiency.  Sandra has a way of just “making it happen”.  Often times she “pulls it off” while managing a full patient load, supporting the ED staff, working with multiple emergent situations.

Sandra is the “go to” nurse whenever there are difficult situations within the department.  She mentors new associates, leads, guides and supports staff.  When Sandra is in charge, her sense of order makes a tremendous difference in the overall throughput of the ED.  Sandra supports staffing needs throughout the week, taking on direct patient care and supporting the ED leadership.  She is well respected by the physicians and the staff.

The extraordinary skills that Sandra demonstrates make her a true example of a DAISY Nurse.
