On behalf of her outstanding performance, Dr. Conrado would like to recognize this nurse for the DAISY Award.

This nurse went beyond the call of duty in order to help her patient. This patient was admitted the night before with complaint of palpitations. The nurse noted that the patient was very short of breath even though the vital signs were stable. The nurse called a physician who was covering for Dr. Conrado and reported her findings. The on-call physician did not give any new orders, so the nurse decided to call Dr. Conrado directly on his personal cell. They decided that a CT chest order; D-Dimer was needed and preceded with the test. The test revealed that the patient had Extensive Bilateral Pulmonary Embolism and the nurse at this time insisted on a Pulmonary Consult. At this point the patient was protected with anticoagulants and was in the process of getting thrombolitics since the Pulmonologist was very concerned regarding the results. Please make sure we recognize this nurse for her assertive behavior and of course her excellent skills.
