Donna consistently displays kindness, patience, and enthusiasm with her patients and co-workers. She goes out of her way to mentor not only new staff, but takes extra time to "get to know" her patients to better anticipate their needs. Donna is a living example of our Professinal Practice Model based on "modeling;role modeling" by Helen Erickson. Her easy smile, kind eyes, and gentle ways provide a sense of security, trust, and respect to her patients. They often refer to her by name weeks after she has provided care for them/family. Additionally, Donna's unquenchable thirst for knowledge keeps her abreast and interested in current affairs, guidelines, policies, technologies, and the world at large as it relates to nursing. To experience Donna at the bedside is to experience nursing/nurses as they are meant to be: teacher/mentor/healer/guide/collaborator/advocate. |
