Fred Rehn

On Friday, July 31st, the charge nurse of the SICU received a phone call from the ER charge nurse stating that a patient needed to come to the unit immediately in order to have an interventricular catheter placed. The patient was 55 yeas old with a head bleed and who could literally die any minute and needed this catheter to save her life. Knowing the patient's critical situation and the need for urgency in placing the line, a call was made to Fritz at home. Fritz is known on the unit as being a great resource, especially for IVC placement. Being a Friday night, Fritz was not supposed to be working or on call. He did not hesitate to help the nurse placing the call. He spent almost an hour on the phone with the nurses walking them through the whole process. Without Fritz's expertise the patient could have very likely died. Fritz had the most amazing attitude while helping. Fritz called back later to check and make sure that the nurses did not need anything further and even offered to come in to help. Fritz is the epitome of an extraordinary nurse. |
