Med/Surg Oncology

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital

Alexandria, Virginia

Julie is presented with the DAISY Award by Paul V. Luisada MD, President of IMVH Medical Staff and Patricia Mook , RN, Chief Nurse Executive.

Julie’s nomination from colleagues concluded that, “She always goes above and beyond to make sure her patients are safe. When Julie is working, the outpatient department runs smoothly and her patients are happy and safe. Patients often comment on how much they enjoy having her take care of them. They comment on how much she helps them through the disease process.

Not long ago, Phillip Eaton “Senior Director” received a letter from a patient recognizing Julie for her excellent work and professionalism. The patient quoted “She is the best nurse I have ever met in my life”. Another patient, a 23 year old cancer patient sent Julie a thank you card saying that she was now cancer free and she thanked Julie for being a part of her “Army” and helping her go through the most scary phase of her life.”

“July’s dedication to the cancer patients has no limits. The support and knowledge that she provides our cancer patients really makes a difference in their lives and their outcomes. Julie is an amazing caregiver who makes a difference in her patient’s lives on a daily basis thereby making her the perfect candidate for this recognition.”

The DAISY Award Program is part of the national not for profit DAISY Foundation, which was established by family members of J. Patrick Barnes, who died in 1999 at the age of 33 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, an auto-immune disease. The care received by Barnes from his nurses inspired his family to create the DAISY Award Program.  At IMVH, the award is sponsored by the hospital’s medical staff.
