The DAISY Award is for extraordinary nurses, which describes Laura Saner perfectly. I have not only had the privilege of witnessing Laura's exemplification of exemplary clinical skills, compassionate care, exemplary service, and continued commitment to excellence, from a professional standpoint, but also as a patient's family member. I am nominating Laura for The DAISY Award based on my experience as a patient's family member.
My grandmother was a patient on 4NW, and under the care of Laura during her stay at UMC. When I would come in to visit my grandmother, I would see Laura in her room talking with my grandmother, despite the fact that she was in a coma. I honestly believe that Laura's continual discussions with my grandmother enabled my grandmother to heal and keep her mind sharp. I also believe that Laura's positive and considerate nature sped up the healing process for my grandmother. I also found it extremely comforting that Laura naturally performed this act of kindness, even when others were not around to witness.
