Mari Moore, RN

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit,

Seattle Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center

Seattle, Washington

I cannot tell you how much Mari has changed my life, 14 weeks premature infants life or how I see Children’s. She has exemplified what family centered care is! After weeks of being in the NICU I was assigned to Mari. Everyday she would ask me (not the nurse) ‘Have you noticed anything different about Jayden today?’ I would tell her my concerns and she would hunt down the problem, make suggestions to the doctors, make sure to take me over to the doctor if I had a question and was hesitating. One day I told her Jayden was having tremors for the last two days. I knew something was wrong but could not figure it out. My little 2 pound baby was having shakes! I was so happy when she came in, because she was the first nurse to say ‘well let me talk with Jayden and see what’s going on!’ Yes, my little preemie and she would sit down together and “chat”. Come to find out he was having morphine withdrawals! Another day she came in and found his feeding tube turned off and she just told me the truth, said sorry, looked at my baby and said, “well lets get you fed and back on schedule mister!” All the NICU RNs were great! I have a list, but Mari put it over the top. She talked to me but more so she listened and RESPONDED no matter how small! Thank you Mari! Jayden came to Children’s at 12 days old, 14 weeks premature, 2 lbs 2 oz. He left 3 months later as a happy 5 lbs baby and I left a first time mom! Thank you Children’s and Mari!
