Mary Paladino

Mary is an excellent nurse and a joy to have as one of my day weekend peers in the ICU. It is almost impossible to consider only one situation that Mary has been involved in that would exemplify the need for her nomination. As her co-worker for nearly five years I have witnessed numerous encounters of Mary's compassion and dedication to the families and patients.

Recently Mary became extremely close to a young patient that we had for months in the ICU. This little boy was hesitant to allow most anyone to take care of him, but not only did he allow Mary to care for him, he would ask for Mary even when transferred to other floors. Mary was called by other nurses on the floor to come and assist in his care at times and even would call for her advice on the best ways to care for him in certain situations that they new Mary would be familiar with. She never hesitated to lend a hand or offer advice for this patient.

She has a strong compassion for her job, works hard, is chair of our Unit Council Committee, is helpful and resourceful. Mary treats families and patients like they are part of her family and I am lucky enough to be apart of her work family! She is an excellent choice for a DAISY Award!
